About Us

Epping Gymnastics Club was founded in 1996 by Carrie Barfoot at the age of 18. Over the last 26 years, we have been based at Epping Sports Centre, Hemnall Street, which is at the heart of the Epping community.

In 2022, Jessica Bowtell, a dedicated gymnast of 15 years and coach for 12 years, became Head Coach. Carrie is still heavily involved in the club and is now one of our Welfare Officers. Through the pandemic, our coaches and gymnasts stayed committed, keeping the love for gymnastics and sport in the community alive. From outdoor sessions in local parks to strength and conditioning classes over Zoom.

The club has seen growth over the last year, from 15 squad gymnasts to 165 members attending classes throughout the week. Being a member of Epping Gymnastics is not just about the sport; it’s about the love and friendship for one another created here.

Our squad teams have attended so many brilliant gymnastics events over the years that it’s hard to name them all! We have represented Great Britain as part of Team GB at the World Gymnaestrada in Switzerland 2011, Helsinki 2015 & Austria 2019. We also attend annual events that take place around Great Britain, such as The London Festival of Gymnastics.

We also offer recreational classes throughout the week. Our classes are designed for children ages 3+ and aim to develop more confident, coordinated, and fitter youngsters while having fun and learning new skills.
